Coconut Day, or Fête de la Noix de Coco is a local tradition of the VIth district of the A.P.O. Cétrogran. It celebrates the find of a big coconut.

History

General history of the Coconut Day

On the 18th of July 1953, a man by the name of Pierre Piolo discovered the biggest coconut of the whole island of Sancyta. The citizens of the Sixth District broke into celebration at the sight of the nut, finding it to be an impressive achievement for the district.

26 years after the discovery, the Central Administration of the Cétrogran Province declared the holiday to be a national holiday in Cétrogran VI and ordered that "All people should be made able to cheer, one way or another, for the discovery of the nut."

Incident of the 19th of July, 2001

On the 18th of July 2001, a man by the name of Alec Yount violated the obligation of friendship of the Coconut Day. On the 19th of July at midnight, when citizens broke into his home, dragged him outside, tied him up to a coconut tree and threw coconuts at him until the police arrived and found him dead.

Tradition

The coconut is not viewed as a religious idol or as a magical symbol. However, there is heavy tradition regarding this day.

On the 18th of July at midnight, the Land Broadcasting Speakers of the Sixth Province play the Song of the Coconut. Often, people will join in the town square to sing the song aswell.

People often hang coconuts, or imagery related to coconuts, from their windows, doors, or roofs. Restaurants serve coconut themed meals per law or must close for the day.

At exactly 18:28 (date of registering of the coconut in the registry of commerce of Cétrogran), a gigantic coconut (placed on the town square of the capital of Cétrogran VI) is to be destroyed by all the inhabitants using wooden machetes. The milk collected is then to be drank by the inhabitants to earn one more year of happiness given by the coconut.

Laws

On the 18th of July, it is illegal to commit "Lowest-degree murder" (which is legal in Cétrogran). It is also illegal to use the law provisions of Cétrogran against anyone for any reason, as the day of the coconut has to be celebrated.

Furthermore, the code of Cétrogran VI states:

The EIGHTEENTH OF JULY, ALL DAY, to celebrate the GREAT COCONUT FINDING, citizens of the sixth district must show SOLIDARITY AND FRIENDSHIP regardless of difference, status, or of any other applicable cultural or legal norm for the GREAT COCONUT FINDING has happened and brought joy to our district.
